  ANGELA CARTWRIGHT

Angela’s work is a fusion of photography, painting and altered art that interprets her unique photographic art with the use of oil paints, acrylics, inks, written word and ephemera.  Angela adds color to enhance her black and white fiber photographs, making you believe that color was there all along. The end result is an intriguing blend, a painting emerging from within the photograph.  No matter how many times a photograph is painted, each rendering is unique.  Angela calls this marriage of black and white images with oil color 'Simpatico'.
Angela's book 'Mixed Emulsions - Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery' was released in  2007(Quarry Books)and explores Angela's techniques for hand painting imagery and creating textures in art. Angela's book 'In This House - Altered Art Imagery and Collage Techniques' (Quarry Books 2007)she co-authored with Sarah Fishburn. She is a frequent contributor to art publications.
Well known for her television and movie roles, photography is a passion Angela has pursued for over four decades and her work is collected and exhibited internationally.
Recently her photographic images have been licensed for fine art prints by the New York Graphic Society and ArtBeats, coasters by ThirstyStone and artist papers and stamps by Stampington & Company.

Angela is the curator of A Studio Gallery in Studio City, California. She is also a founding member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers Guild for lovers of black and white photography.

Her photography is available for viewing and purchase at A STUDIO GALLERY or online at: www.acartwrightstudio.com

VINCE PARADERO

Vince Paradero was born in Okinawa, Japan.  At an early age he was exposed to photography by his Father and Uncle.  He was taught that photographs were important because they were history and a link to one's family and ancestors.  Vince's photograhic education began at a very young age and he continued to study Art and Photography at Pierce College, which is where he met his wife Mardjie.
After graduating, Vince worked as a Black and White printer.  He started working for Frank Schulz  in 1982 at Franks Custom Lab.  Frank retired and Vince and his wife Mardjie took over the business and have operated it since 1989. Franks Custom Lab has continued to print archival photographs for museums, the most recent being the archival prints of Jazz Musicians for the Clark County Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vince is a founding member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

  MARDJIE PARADERO

Mardjie was born in Den Haag, The Netherlands.  When her family moved to Los Angeles, California Mardjie’s love for photography grew and she built an entire darkroom in her home when she was 17 years old.  After majoring in Photography in High School she continued her education at Pierce College where she met her husband Vince. Their dream of owning a custom Black and White Photo Lab came true in 1989.  A long time business association and friendship with Angela Cartwright manifested into another lifetime dream of opening a Black & White Gallery and it became a reality on March 16th, 2003.  A STUDIO GALLERY which exhibits exclusively black and white photography opened its doors in the front of Franks Custom Lab with Angela curating the gallery.  Mardjie is a founding member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

  SCOTT DAVIS JONES

Scott is a writer, painter and photographer.   He paints over his photos in monochromatic tones in a dense, expressionistic style.  He infuses his work with a spiritual presence, aiming to re-create what the 17th Century philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg called “Divine Influx”.  That is, that the Divine is constantly infusing objects, both animate and inanimate, with Its lifeforce; and in turn, these objects radiate and inform the presence of the Divine in the physical world.  Eugene O'Neill describes such a phenomenon when he wrote: "...It’s like the veil of things as they seem drawn back by an unseen hand.  For a second you see!  And seeing the secret, you ARE the secret. For a second there is meaning.” Scott’s hand-painted photography attempts to pull back that veil and freeze the image to allow an emotional awakening in the viewer. Scott is a founding member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

KATINA DESMOND

Katina's fascination with black and white photography stems from the medium's innate ability to capture reality in an otherworldly fashion. She often takes her work a step further by combining  black and white photographic imagery with paint and/or collage. In combining these mediums, an intriguing, ethereal quality emerges bringing forth a new multi-dimensional image.
Katina was exposed early to an enthusiastic embrace of creativity by her parents, who were both professional artists. Her childhood was immersed in a myriad of vibrant artistic activities as well as the mountains, creeks, animal habitats and Native American relics that defined Topanga Canyon, California where she was raised. She was given her first camera at the age of eight.  Katina studied art, photography and design at Santa Monica College, Valley College, Otis Art Institute and UCLA. She has been creating graphic design and fine art photography for over twenty-five years.
Katina is a founding member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

 FRANK BRUYNBROEK

Bruynbroek (pronounced Brin-brook) was born in Vilvorde, a small town on the outskirts of Brussels, Belgium.  Frank became an elementary school teacher when he graduated from college and was offered a job teaching French in Louisiana.  It was his first time out of Europe and stayed in the United States for two years. When he returned to Belgium he taught mentally handicapped kids, traveled on his motorcycle, turned into a ski instructor, shot weddings, designed light shows, became a casting director, directed commercials, sang back up for a renowned Belgian singer, was the lead in a play...then Belgium became too small. He came to California to study acting and pursue photography.  Frank is in the process of producing a book about his favorite subject, dogs and he works relentlessly for the Brittany Foundation, rescuing dogs off the streets.  He is also available to shoot the animal in your life.  Frank is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild. RUSSELL A.OLSEN

Russell was born in Chicago, Illinois and currently resides in North Hollywood, California. His many interests include photography and the classical guitar. His interest in photography began after many failed attempts in the music business. “Photography became a release for me and was something creative I could do alone.” He has been photographing and documenting Route 66 since his first trip down the fabled highway in1996. In 2004 his book 'Route 66 Lost and Found' was published by MBI. He is currently working on Route 66 Lost and Found II, a follow up to his first book has just been released. He has traveled the entire route over a dozen times over the last few years in an effort to document the hundreds of vanishing sites along the route. He is especially fond of black and white infrared photography and enjoys the challenges that it offers. “You release the shutter, expose the film and you never really know how it will turn out. It is fun and frustrating at the same time!” Russell is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

 IRV HIRSCH

Irv loves trains, and specifically, Steam Locomotives.  On vacations away from his job with Amtrak, he has traveled to India, Southern Africa, South America, and Eastern Europe to see and photograph the rapidly disappearing steamers that still run in regular service.  About three years ago, super-8 sound film became unavailable, so Irv took up black and white photography.  Since then he has photographed sugar mill railroads in Cuba and the Jitong railway of Inner Mongolia, China.  They are among the handful of places in the world to view these wonderful machines of the Industrial Age still performing 'real' work on a daily basis. Irv is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

MAURA BRENNAN

Maura always had an interest in photography, and took her first black and white photography class while a Painting major at college.  Her interest in Art led to an appreciation of Fine Art Photography and of the black and white print.  She began an exploration of this unique art form. "I love how black and white photography refines everything down to light and shadow. It can make an emotional statement using only gradient tones from pitch black to pure white. I am amazed at it's ability to capture the essence of a subject and of a moment in time." Her favorite photographer is Edward Weston. Maura was born in Tucson, Arizona. She has studied at S.U.N.Y at Cortland, N.Y. University of Texas at Austin and at Valley College.  She has lived for many years in Valley Village, CA. She does portraiture, headshots, music photography and is also a painter. Maura is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

MICHAEL A.VINCI

My interest in photography began as a boy, while using a Zenit-E camera with a 50mm lens.  I bought it with the money I'd saved from my paper route and photographing my elementary school basketball team.  Today, my passion is documentary photography, primarily in black & white.  My subjects are the people on the streets around the world, the environment, discarded items left on sidewalks, anti-war rallies, even capturing my own children interacting in their world.  I use many formats but the Holga camera has become the one that I find myself using more often than any other camera. The remarkable quality from this plastic camera is something one has to experience.

From the title of my solo exhibition at A Studio Gallery, “Before us All”; I wander looking for a scene that is in front of me and everyone else.  As master photographer Garry Winogrand once said, “Anything is Photographable.” Michael is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

LIZA HENNESSEY BOTKIN

Liza Hennessey Botkin was born and raised in New York City, but her photographic career began in Los Angeles in the 70s while she was working for photographers Michael Childers and Lou Stoumen, from whom she learned how to print. She is a true street photographer, shooting from the hip and taking her camera with her wherever she goes. She wanders the streets of Los Angeles and spends much of her time in malls where, for many years, she has been documenting the preoccupation many people have with shopping.
Though Ms. Botkin never studied the art of photography in an academic setting, her work is deeply influenced and defined by that of Henri Cartier-Bresson. She, too, searches for what he so aptly called “the decisive moment.”
Ms. Botkin’s work has appeared in numerous galleries throughout the United States and in several photographic magazines, including Photographers Forum, SHOTS and Leica View. Liza is a charter member of the 4260 Black and White Photographers’ Guild.

KELLIE MARTIN

Kellie Martin began photographing seven years ago while studying art as an undergraduate at Yale University.  Although most know her as an actress on such television shows as "Life Goes On" and "ER," photography is her greatest passion. Her early work includes landscapes of Central Park, NYC and portraiture.  Martin prints her own photographs and works almost exclusively in black and white, using 4x5, 2 1/4, and 35 mm formats.  Her current work focuses on the game of polo and her family ranch in Western Montana.
In 1999, Martin became the national spokesperson for AARDA after losing her sister to lupus.  She now works to raise funds and awareness for autoimmune diseases by lobbying Congress, speaking at health symposiums, and meeting with patients and their families.

PAUL HOEFFLER

Toronto-based photographer Paul Hoeffler has been documenting jazz musicians since the mid 1950’s. His mentor, Minor White at the Rochester Institute of Technology, encouraged him to focus his photography on what he simply loved to do, that is, focus his craft on creating jazz photographs that were personal in style. Photographing legends such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and hundreds of others, Hoeffler also documented the historically important Newport Jazz Festivals in the mid to late 1950’s. His keen interest and deep appreciation of the jazz scene are reflected in his unique images. Paul Hoeffler is a world renowned photographer, master printer and his work is represented in numerous museums, galleries and private collections.

  PAT GANAHL
Pat Ganahl has been a hot rodder since his early teens and an automotive journalist for 30-plus years. Beginning as editor of Street Rodder magazine in the '70's, followed by a 13 year stint where he was editor of hot Rod magazine and the revived Rod & Custom magazine.  He has authored eleven books, including the history of The American Custom Car, a color photography art book for Abbeville Press. He has won numerous Moto Awards for his books, articles and photographs, as well as two Maggie Awards, and is a member of several Halls of Fame.
During his work related events that took him to car shows and racing venues across the U.S. and abroad, Pat always kept a seperate camera loaded with black and white film to take interesting, unusual, or historical photographs for his own collection.  Taking black and white photographs of scenes on America's two-lane highways, by the roadsides, and at the ends of lonely dirt roads has long been one of Pat's passions.
